St. Mary Magdalene Kariokor Parish was an outstation of St. Joseph and Mary-Shauri Moyo Parish which was elevated to a parish on 27th July 2013 by H.E. John Cardinal Njue Archbishop of Nairobi. The parish is within Majengo Ziwani Slums which are resident areas of low income citizens within the City of Nairobi.
The Parish was created due to rapid increase in Catholic population within the area for better pastoral care. The area has a total population of over 500,000 of whom 100,000 are Catholics. Majority are Muslims and Protestants. The parish meant to provide a conducive environment to nurture, safeguard and promote catholic faith. Being a young parish through the support of parishioners, the parish tried to put elaborate structures and systems for effective pastoral care for all. As a young parish, the parish has many needs including a hall to create a conducive meeting and formation environment.
The parish is currently engaged in the following activities.
a) St. Magdalene Feeding Programme whose Mission is
To provide food to the 150 orphans street children with Ziwani Slum Nairobi with a specific focus on children who attend Pontifical Missionary Children and Catechism classes at St. Mary Magdalene Catholic Church.
